QuickBooks Desktop Pricing 2026: One-Time vs Subscription
Oct 14, 2026 · 6 min read
QuickBooks Desktop pricing is confusing in 2026 because there are now two very different ways to pay for it: Intuit's annual subscription, and a one-time license for the 2024 release sold by resellers. Here is what each costs, what you get for the money, and how the totals compare over a few years.
Intuit's QuickBooks Desktop subscription prices in 2026
Intuit stopped selling new Pro Plus, Premier Plus and Mac Plus subscriptions in the US on September 30, 2024. Existing subscribers can still renew, at these prices since February 1, 2026:
- Pro Plus: $1,149 per year for 1 user, plus $230 per year for each additional user
- Mac Plus: $1,149 per year for 1 user, plus $230 per year for each additional user
- Premier Plus: $1,609 per year for 1 user, plus $345 per year for each additional user
QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is still sold to new customers as an annual subscription, priced by tier (Silver, Gold, Platinum or Diamond) and by number of users. Intuit has also announced further Desktop pricing changes from October 1, 2026, so check Intuit's current quote before you renew.
One-time license prices for QuickBooks Desktop 2024
A one-time license covers the 2024 release. You pay once and there is nothing to renew. Our prices at the time of writing, in October 2026:
- QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024: $127 for 1 user, $147 for 3 users
- QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus 2024: $135
- QuickBooks Desktop for Mac Plus 2024: $134
- QuickBooks Desktop Accountant 2024: $135
- QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 2024: $129 for 1 user, $149 for 5 users
- QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Accountant 2024: $129 for 1 user, $149 for 5 users
The price shown on each product page is the one that applies, and you see it before you pay.
What the two options cost over three years
Take a three-user Pro Plus setup, the configuration we sell most:
- Intuit subscription: $1,149 + 2 × $230 = $1,609 per year, about $4,827 over three years, before any further increase.
- One-time 2024 license: $147, paid once.
The gap is real, but it is not a like-for-like comparison, and you should know why before you decide.
What you get, and what you give up
The subscription buys more than the software. With Intuit you get:
- The current release, kept up to date for as long as you pay
- Support directly from Intuit
- The Intuit online services tied to your subscription
A one-time license gets you:
- A genuine license for the 2024 release, installed from Intuit's own download
- No renewal and no annual price increases
- Support from us, not from Intuit
If having Intuit's own support behind you matters more than the cost, the subscription is the safer choice. If you want Desktop without a yearly bill, a one-time license is the cheaper path. We go into the reasons in why QuickBooks Desktop costs less here.
Is there a QuickBooks Desktop "lifetime license"?
Not in the sense the phrase suggests. Intuit does not sell anything called a lifetime license. What people usually mean is a one-time purchase: you pay once for a specific release and keep using it with no renewal.
That is what a 2024 license is. It keeps working on your computer without further payments. Features that rely on Intuit's online services, such as bank feeds, depend on Intuit continuing to support the 2024 release, and Intuit has not announced an end date for it. Costs people forget to budget for
- Payroll. Payroll is a separate Intuit service with its own subscription. A Desktop license does not include it.
- Extra users. With Intuit, every additional simultaneous user is billed every year. With a one-time license, buy the user count you need up front. Here is what "3 users" means in QuickBooks Desktop.
- Hosting. If your team works remotely, hosting QuickBooks Desktop on a cloud server is an extra monthly cost from the hosting provider.
Which edition gives the best value?
- Freelancers and small businesses: Pro Plus. Most companies never need more.
- Contractors, manufacturers, nonprofits and retailers who want industry reports and forecasting: Premier Plus.
- Businesses with large inventories or up to 40 users: Enterprise.
- Accounting firms: Accountant, or Enterprise Accountant if your clients use Enterprise.
- Mac users: Mac Plus, the native macOS version.
