The QuickBooks Desktop 2024 installer is free, and the only place you should get it is Intuit. What makes the software usable is the license you enter during installation. This guide shows where to download each edition safely, what to check before you install, and how activation works.
Where to download QuickBooks Desktop 2024
Use Intuit's official Downloads & Updates page: downloads.quickbooks.com.
- Select your country (United States).
- Choose the product that matches your license.
- Choose version 2024.
- Click Download and save the installer.
Avoid "free download" sites that offer QuickBooks installers or cracked versions. Those files are often modified, can carry malware, and will not activate with a genuine license.
Download by edition
- QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024: choose Pro. The same installer covers 1 to 3 users; your license sets the user count.
- QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus 2024: choose Premier.
- QuickBooks Desktop Accountant 2024: choose the Accountant edition.
- QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 2024: choose Enterprise, version 24.0.
- QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Accountant 2024: choose Enterprise Accountant.
- QuickBooks Desktop for Mac Plus 2024: choose Mac. The Mac version is a separate product from the Windows editions and needs a Mac Plus license.

Before you install
- A supported computer. QuickBooks Desktop 2024 for Windows needs a 64-bit edition of Windows 10 or Windows 11. Mac Plus needs a recent version of macOS; check Intuit's system requirements for the exact version.
- Administrator access to the computer.
- Your license number and product number. You enter them during installation.
- A backup of your company file if you are upgrading from an older version.
- Older versions closed. Quit any running copy of QuickBooks before you start.
Install and activate in five steps
- Run the installer you downloaded and accept the license agreement.
- Enter your license number and product number when asked.
- Choose Express for a single computer, or Custom and Network if other users will share the company file.
- Open QuickBooks and choose Activate. Enter the validation code if you are asked for one.
- Open your company file or create a new one, and install any update QuickBooks offers.

Installing for several users
For a multi-user setup, install QuickBooks on every computer that will use it, including the one that stores the company file. On that host computer, the QuickBooks Database Server Manager lets the other users open the file over your network. A 3-user license lets three people work in the company file at the same time; here is what that means in practice.
Is a "free download" of QuickBooks Desktop real?
The installer from Intuit is free. The software is not: QuickBooks asks for a valid license number and product number during installation and has to be activated to keep working. A site offering QuickBooks Desktop for free with a license already filled in is distributing pirated or tampered software.
